John Carpenter Is Gangsta What!

Posted in 1 on November 19, 2008 by Erick

Look at him rippin that butt!

This is the coolest news of the day for me thus far.  I gotta say that I’m quite impartial to John Carpenter and his movies.  He’s a horror fan, and I’m not as you all well know.  The only movie of his that I am a huge fan of… “They Live“  featuring the Rowdy Roddy Piper.  The movie rocks, but the rest of his “films”… I no like!

BUT…. this idea sets my pants on fire, my friends.  Here’s the Abby poo mcgee from firstshowing:

Devin recently spoke with Jeremy Passmore, who is writing the script for The Prince along with Andre Fabrizio. “We were trying to do Unforgiven as a gangster movie, because we’re both just huge fans of that.” So far so good – but what is it about? “The premise is that this guy was the most [badass] gangster of all time in Las Vegas, and he’s left the life and created this whole new world. His wife died but he’s raising his kid. He’s living in the middle of nowhere and he’s this very religious, trying to live a straight life guy. His daughter is now going to school at UCLA and she disappears, and he goes looking for her. The trail leads to Vegas and he has to go get her, and the entire city kind of comes down on top of him.”

I love movies where peeps come out of hiding to seek revenge upon those who trespass among in places they shouldn’t be.  David Cronenberg’s “A History Of Violence” perfected that idea, and there are a ton of movies like that.  But I think we have yet to see a gangster flick to bring us such delights… I’m interested in seeing where Johnny can take this idea… Hopefully it works out well, and he can ween himself off low budget horror baskets.

Taking place in Vegas is perfect… I hope we get to see some knuckleheads tossed about and thrown into slot machines where millions of dollars in pennies come rushing out into the hands of an old lady in a wheelchair smoking a cigarette!… And dammit… We better see some fuckin craps being played heavily in this movie film……

DOLLAR YO!!!

Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans Poster

Posted in 1 with tags , , on November 19, 2008 by Erick

I really liked Underworld when it came out.  I remember not being able to see it in the theaters because none of my friends wanted to see it and at the time I wasn’t going to run out to the theater by myself to watch it(things are different now, and I thoroughly enjoy going to the theater by myself every now and then, but that’s a different story).  Alas, when it came out on DVD I went to Blockbuster to rent it, and it was out.  So, it became one of those movies that I wanted so impulsively to see that I just decided to buy it.  Turns out it was a good pick up (ultraviolet was a bad pick up lol).  I sat down, ordered a large pizza for myself, and picked up a six pack and went to town in an old fashioned Erick movie night.  I thought it was great the first time… and I would watch it again if I had company who haven’t seen it.  Then Underworld two came out and I was less impressed… But this forkin thing sounds, and looks like a really cool premise, and I’m excited to see how it goes.  Here’s the new poster for the upcoming “Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans” thanks to Alex at Firstshowing:

Rise of the Lycans Poster

To recap, Rise of the Lycans is a prequel to other two films, and details the history around the centuries-old feud between lycans and vampires. Mitra plays Sonja, Viktor’s daughter, who falls in love with Lucien (the eventual leader of the lycans), played by the very talented Michael Seen (of The Queen and Frost/Nixon). Sonja’s decision to be with Lucien combined with an uprising among the vampires’ slaves causes an epic battle, replete with fangs, fur, blood and rain. It’s going to be great!

Captain America Found His Writers

Posted in 1 with tags , on November 19, 2008 by Erick

Well it seems as though Capitano Americano has landed himself a couple of writers to bid him fair respect of his lifes work (?? don’t ask).

I’m pumped for Captain America, add to that after it’s all said and done, it’s going to be a wonderous day the day The Avengers is released.  I still am excited to hear who they get as the man with a shield.  Here’s the how to thanks to themovieblog:

“Marvel Studios has engaged Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely to script “Captain America,” a film that has Joe Johnston attached to direct.

The red-white-and-blue clad hero with the mighty indestructible shield came to prominence right after the invasion of Pearl Harbor as the U.S. declared war on Japan. The hero is the Marvel character most closely associated with the United States.”

I’m game for those two to write it.  Both Narnias thus far have been written extremely well and I’m confident that they can bring the big guy to the screen without getting to campy.  It would do them well though, in my opinion,  to think of a hybrid between The Dark Knight and Iron Man when it comes to writing this epic.  Do you think that would be a good combination in a script in regards to style?  If it had the feel of both TDK and IM?

Hey, thought for you guys to chew up and maybe spit out, or swallow… Keeping in mind the recent Avengers kick that Hollywood is on… Do you think the movies all should have been written and directed by the same people?  I mean, don’t you think that when it comes time for the Avengers, every character will look and act differently as compared to the film they starred in by themselves?  Not to mention the fact of who will be competing for the top spot as writer and director for The Avengers.  It’s just a thought.  Thoughts?

Here’s the first trailer for the new remake of Race to Witch Mountain starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and two little alien children.  It looks like a kickass upcoming sci-fi movie…. I really hope Dwayne J can finally deliver The “Peoples elbow” or “eyebrow”… It needs to be… Here’s the trailer gang:

I know you’re not excited… Don’t lie

Johnny Depp Mad Hatter Picture

Posted in 1 with tags , , , on November 17, 2008 by Erick

Well reignaroos… We get our first picture of Johnny Depot as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s imagining of Alice In Wonderland.. Check it out thanks to recently returned themovieblog for the picture:

Mad Hatter

I’m not a huge fan of Burton’s films as of late, I did like the Nightmare before Christmas and original Batman movies.  Here’s what would make this movie kick my ass.  If it turns out to look, feel, and sound like Labyrinth.  What is Labyrinth… A great flick from the 80’s featuring a young Jennifer Connely(still smokin) and a rather young and freakish David Bowie… If Alice In Wonderland can look like this… I’m a fan… Check out this scene from Labyrinth with David Bowie singing possibly the best song of all time… Dance Magic Dance:

Official Star Trek Trailer = Trekkie Joygasm!

Posted in 1 with tags on November 17, 2008 by Erick

I fucking hate Star Trek… Just to be clear… Hate it.  I may get some flack for that, but, it’s a stand OfficialI’m confident in taking……. But…

Now, there is this sweet ass looking movie coming out May 9, 2009 called Star Trek, that looks fucking sweet.  Fucking sweet.  I don’t know why I like it, maybe it’s the updated take, maybe not, I really don’t know.  But it gets me all hot thinking about it.  I’m going to take this opportunity to compare it to The Day The Earth Stood Still, I tried… So hard to watch the original, and I had to turn it off.  I have a serious issue watching old school movies… Black & white, technicolor, movies from the 60’s and earlier(I admit there are a few that I love, but for the most part it’s torture for me).  Everyone asks me, “how could you have a movie blog and not have seen movies like Casablanca?”  And to them I say… “Start your own movie blog, I like new movies”… Alright enough blabbering on my part.  Here is the official trailer for Star Trek:

I’m admitting that it does look frickin cool and I’m extremely excited to see it.  As it is a reboot of something that people claim to be spectacular.  I’ll be there opening night.  Let’s get a trekkie party going beforehand… Anyone Down?  Close to Middletown CT?  Let me know… we’ll start the planning now.

Gem of the Week

Posted in 1 on November 16, 2008 by Starsky & Hutch

OK , so Starsky tipped me off to this one.  Watch the trailer…you’ll know why I’m posting this.

Who will like it:   I can’t imagine anyone actually thinking this is a “good” movie, however if you watch it with tongue firmly in cheek (the way it’s meant to be viewed) you’ll have a good time.  I suggest renting it with friends and not letting them know what it is about. It’s a riot!  And the lead, Jess Weixler, gives a perfect deliriously twisted performance….I’m sure we’ll be seeing much more of her in the future.

New Daniel Craig Movie

Posted in 1 on November 16, 2008 by Starsky & Hutch

So…….  I saw the new Bond movie this weekend. Didn’t think it was as great as Casino Royale, but it was a pretty good flick.  Granted the theater was packed with annoying Wesleyan students, I had a horrible seat and I fell asleep about 4 times (past my bed time), so I can’t really provide an accurate review until I see it again. If you are going to see this movie do not under any circumstance sit close to the screen. Craning your neck to see the huge screen is a pain in the ass already, but the quick jump cuts throughout every action scene makes it impossible to know what is going on. Also do not sit next to someone who has shoes that smell like they have been out in the rain for months.

Casino Royale is one of my fav movies, so it would take a lot for me to come out of the theater thinking QoS was better. Plus personally, I love long movies…to me, if I’m paying $10 to see a movie, as long as it is good I want to be in there as long as possible to make it worth it. Basically I need to go back during the afternoon, so I don’t fall asleep, in an empty theater, so that no one bothers me, and watch it again, but as a stand-alone film without thinking it is going to be the second coming of Casino Royale.

Anywho…on to the reason I’m posting today.  I have a man-crush on Daniel Craig…he can do no wrong in my P.O.V. He’s a great actor and I can’t wait to see what he comes out with next. Which brings me to Defiance. This is the next Craig movie coming out and it looks pretty damn good. It’s an Epic movie written and directed by Edward Zwick, who did the Last Samurai, Glory and Legends of the Fall….all movies that rock my shit. I love Epics, love Zwick, love Criag, so it goes without saying that I’m amped for this thing to come out. Take a peek…

I can already tell that there are going to be haters out there who are going to cry about the Russian accents. But really what are they supposed to do? Film the whole movie speaking in Russian with subtitles? That would be lame. Should they play the characters with American or English accents? Even more lame! The only real option is to get the actors to speak English with the Russian accent that everyone seems to hate on.

Another pretty damn cool thing about this flick is that Paramount Vantage is pushing this for awards season. Because of this, if you check out the website you can not only find the trailer, photos and bios on the actors, but they have the entire screenplay available for download!!! They also have the soundtrack available to listen to and a full media kit you can download.  Check it out here:

Enjoy!

A Movie Blog’s Future Unclear

Posted in 1 on November 13, 2008 by Erick

So… it’s a bit unclear as to what is going on right now with a very popular movie blog site.  Themovieblog is an amazing site which has been one motivation to me starting this site.  As of recently, apparently, they have yet to be paid for the past month or so which is absolute frippery!!! Whoever is at the helm of the cash bunny… Pay the men the money they’re owed please.  If you haven’t checked out themovieblog… Head over and check it out.  They are the hosts of the longest running movie related podcast on the internet and have quite the sense of humor.  All of us here hope that everything works out and this is just some sort of misunderstanding that they can laugh about in the future.  Good luck amigos!
