Venom May Actually Happen!

I fucking hated!! HATED!!! Topher Grace as Venom in Spiderman 3. Spidey 3 was an abysmal mess and I hope that they can bring back the good name to the family that is the Venom’s! Thanks to the hardworking little bumblebees over at yahoo for this early morning news:
With Heath Ledger’s villainous Joker drawing attention and box office dollars, Sony is moving forward with “Venom,” a potential “Spider-Man” spinoff based on a bad guy. The studio is developing the project, based on the gooey nemesis who appeared in 2007’s “Spider-Man 3” and is hoping the character could serve as an antidote to the aging “Spider-Man” franchise just as Fox has used Wolverine to add longevity to its “X-Men” franchise. But getting any spinoff off the ground, let alone one centered on a villain, can be tricky. The studio had commissioned a draft of the script from Jacob Estes, a writer of the specialty film “Mean Creek,” released several years ago by Paramount Classics. But the studio is considering going in a different direction from Estes’ script and is seeking writers for a new draft.
Personally, I love the idea for a Venom movie. Venom and Shocker were two of my favorite villains in the Spiderman world and I’m happy to see all my childhood “superheroes” being brought to the big screen. Some have been ruined already and I hope they can resurrect some as well i.e. Venom. Batman was resurrected by Mr. Nolan and I have high hopes that moving forward there will be a lot of re-do’s now that the success of TDK is showing producers and studios that “this is what people like right now”. I’m working on an article that I’ll have up later today in regards to the theme of movies and the relation to it’s success. How do you guys feel about studios taking advantage of the success with TDK and starting to think about other comic book frenzies?

I think it’s just smart business as long as they remember the reason The Dark Knight is doing so well is because it’s an awesome movie that stuck to the spirit of the characters.
I’m completely fine with the studio taking an alternate history and having Venom break out of prison or something to that effect but I really hope they have him speak correctly; no “I” only “We”.

Do you think TDK stuck to the spirit? The Joker is very different than the comic books don’t you think? Honestly Leo, I would totally be for giving us a totally new look on Venom. Same storyline perhaps, similar look. But totally realistic and real and dark. What do you think?

The joker is a scary psycho killer which is what the joker should be the little differences don’t matter if you stick to the spirit.
I kinda liked how Venom looked in Spider-Man 3. That’s probably as real as he is going to look. I’d like it to be dark too and maybe if they bring Eddie back he could be played by someone like Henry Rollins.
The only storyline I think people would like to see would be Venom vs Carnage and if they want to do more movies Venom vs Carnage vs Toxin (I think Carnage’s only offspring). When Spider-Man is not around Venom is kind of an anti-hero so I hope they remember that when writing it.

Henry Rollins!!! ha ha dude! hell yes. I think that movie would go down in history as the most accurate and awesome movie of all time
